Saturday March 22
New Hampshire State Democratic Platform Committee Hearing

All interested Democrats were invited to attend as the Democratic Platform Committee held a hearing at the Conway Public Library on Saturday morning March 22.

A draft 2008 Platform is to be available in the middle of April.

The Democratic Party Caucus for Carroll County, District 1 Towns of Bartlett, Chatham, Conway, Hale’s Location, Hart's Location & Jackson took place at 5:30 P.M. at Tuckerman's Restaurant & Tavern at the New England Inn for a – Dinner /Social
7:00 P.M began our Meeting & Caucuses

Caucus summary

+/- 25 Registered Democrats and Undecided Voters from Bartlett, Chatham, Conway, Hart's Location & Jackson. Those who were elected will be delegates to the N.H. State Democratic Party convention this year to be held in May.

Carroll County District 1 Democratic Reps, Tom Buco and Ed Butler, discuss their accomplishments this past year and filled us in on some of the important issues pending in the State legislature.

  • It included discussion on Educational Adequacy committee report on the cost factors
  • The Wall that our Representative face when dealing with Property Taxes and Fairness.
  • Some reasons NH will most likely be forced to cut budgets, to achieve constitutional balanced budgets for the future.
  • Important issue facing NH Workers. Play catch up for years of Legislative mismanagement of things like the State Retirement System. Bringing the program back up to 85% from the current 63% over a period of time. Representative Buco said It took years to get to where it is today and has "no doubt" it will take some time to get the retirement system back as a trusted benefit to NH Workers.

Monday, January 28th 5:30 - 8pm.
 The Carroll County Democratic Committee met on January 28, 2008 at Runnells Hall in Chocorua.

 A successful pizza and salad supper.  with over 50 in attendance.

  The guest speaker for the evening was Judge Willard (Bud) Martin Jr. from Sandwich discussing his recent decision to run as a Democratic candidate for Senate District 3. 

  Judge Martin has spent over 30 years as a judge in both Belknap and Carroll Counties, has received many civic awards recognizing his support for families and children and held leadership positions in many law related associations.  In addition, Judge Martin served a term in the New Hampshire House of Representatives.

2007 Dorothy Solomon Award

This award was established at the completion of Dorothy's term as Carroll County Democrats Chair.  It recognized Dorothy's work to keep the Democratic Party active in Carroll County.  Her work resulted in a Democratic Party that was able to change its slogan from "Courage is a Carroll Democrat" to "Pride is a Carroll County Democrat"  During Dorothy's term, Tom Buco was elected to the Legislature, the first Democrat in many years.  The award will be given to a person who has worked hard to build the Democratic Party in Carroll County.
