SOLVING GLOBAL WARMING IS
THE CHALLENGE OF OUR GENERATION

The effects of Global Warming are already being felt here in New Hampshire. Without significant action to reduce carbon emissions within the next decade, scientists predict that the consequences will be severe and potentially irreversible.

On June 14th, 2007 we learned how we could help persuade the next President to make Global Warming a top priority. As you are well aware, Presidential Candidates are making regular trips to the Granite State and the Q&A part of Town Halls as well as informal discussions can impact their thinking on issues.

How you craft and deliver the question or message to the candidate can effect its impact.

Do you want to ensure that the next President takes climate change seriously?  NH plays a key role in the Presidential Primaries; Carbon Coalition and partner staff are working in conjunction with organizations across the state and nation to elevate climate change as an issue in the 2008 primaries.

Please consider attending one of the Carbon Coalition's volunteer briefings in June to learn how you can be directly involved.  In these sessions, you'll gain the resources, tools, and information to learn when the candidates will be visiting near you, how to ask an informed question about climate change, and how to get candidate answers into the hands of people that will make sure their response becomes part of the formal process.

The guest speaker was Ken Colburn, who delivered the keynote speech on Climate Change at the MWV Economic Council Annual Meeting.  Ken Colburn formed Symbiotic Strategies LLC to pursue efforts in climate change, energy, public policy, and the intersection of environmental and economic opportunity. Your candidate questions will propel the dialog on climate change in the 2008 Primary.  For more information on this opportunity and other ways you can be involved in the Carbon Coalition's efforts, please visit http://www.carboncoalition.org.

JOIN OUR NEW HAMPSHIRE GLOBAL WARMING ACTION PROJECT

You know that global warming is real, here and happening faster than anyone predicted. There is no doubt that urgent action is needed and New Hampshire citizens can show America the way -- just as we did in the fight against acid rain a generation ago.  The good news is that this effort is already under way!

This spring, 180 towns will vote at their town meeting or on Voting Day to adopt the "New Hampshire Climate Change Resolution." This resolution calls on national decision makers to mandate reductions in carbon emissions and encourages local communities to appoint voluntary energy committees that will identify local steps to save energy and cut global warming pollution. Activists around the state are already signing up to help and we need you!

Help send a loud and very clear signal to our local and national leaders. The New Hampshire Chapter of Sierra Club has launched a new website to help you get involved and get connected to other activists in your area.  At the site you can sign up and learn how to:

*     Speak in support of the NH Climate Change Resolution at your town meeting.

*     Spend two hours at the polls on Voting Day

*     Write and send a letter to the editor to your local newspaper

*     Be a Global Warming Action Team Captain

*     Host or Join a Cell Phone House Party

The site can tell you what events are already happening near you, and will provide you with all the resources you need to get involved at whatever level you're comfortable.
Come help us make this important step to stopping global warming!

Join the team now!
